It can be a nightmare when you don’t cover up your floors or furniture while painting and then you end up dropping a can of paint, ruining everything.
Don't Hire a Painter Who Can't Tell the Difference Between Latex, Oil, & Water Based Paints
When painting the exterior of a house, it’s always best to paint the exterior with a latex paint, because they are much more durable against the outside elements.
You CANNOT paint latex paint over a surface that was painted with an oil-based paint. The latex paint will start peeling off in a matter of days or even hours. You must first apply an oil base primer then apply latex paint so that the paint will BOND.
If you hired a painter who can’t seem to understand this, then you need to find a professional house painter who knows the different types of paints as soon as possible.
Use Masking Tape, Plastic, & Tarps to Cover Up Areas
Do not regular tape when painting an area!!
The difference between using masking tape and regular tape to cover tough areas such as trim, doorknobs, windows, etc. is that whenever you start painting specific areas and then take the tape off of areas you don’t want to be painted, what happens with regular tape is that the paint could drip into those areas, leaving a big mess.
That is why whenever you start taping up doors and trim it’s best to use masking tape.
Another point I want to give is about covering up big areas such as floors, tables, and other furniture.
You don’t want to necessarily put heavy tarps on glass tables or on the wall. For big areas such as walls, you can use plastic as well.
