What Will Be Covered:

In this article you will learn why you shouldn’t stand on your roof. It’s not recommended to climb just any roof that is pitched raised at an angle because the risk of falling is great.

Now the big question: Is it safe to stand on a roof?

If you are not a roofer or know how to climb a pitched roof, it is NOT recommended to stand on a roof.

Wearing the Right Type of Shoes

It’s very important if not the most important to wear the right type of shoes when climbing on a pitched roof.

Wearing mud boots for example on a roof is going to almost definitely make you slip and fall off a 12/12 pitched roof.

It’s best to wear Roofing Shoes whenever you’re on a roof so that you can prevent yourself from slipping and falling off your own roof.

Different Roof Pitches

There are many roof pitches, but the most popular and common roof pitch is an 5/12 roof pitch which basically means for every 12 inches of roof, there will be a height of 5 inches.

Now you may be thinking to yourself that you’re not going to slip on such a low pitch roof but in reality, it’s not a low pitch. It’s almost like walking up a hill but you slip off, you could fall.

There is also a 12/12 pitch roof style which means the roof is angled at 45 degrees and in these types of roofs, it is highly recommended that you call a professional for a roofing inspection instead of trying to do it yourself.

Danger and Potential for Injury

Even wearing the best type of shoes for roofs or being a professional roofer like Mr. Happy House is not going to make you not fall off your roof. There are risks when climbing a roof such as falling onto the ground, falling into your attic (your roof would have to very weak for this to happen), and twisting your ankle.
